The Educational Developer will contribute to the design and evaluation of educational initiatives that enhance learning and assessment within our qualifications framework. Working closely with academic teams, you will utilise modern pedagogical strategies to develop engaging and effective educational resources. This role offers an exciting opportunity to drive innovation in educational development in a supportive and dynamic environment.
Responsibilities for Educational Innovation
- Assist in designing, scoping, and developing WSET core teaching materials, including but not limited to: textbooks for all WSET subject disciplines, teaching support resources (e.g. session plans) for multiple modes of delivery (blended, classroom, online, virtual).
- Collaborate closely with the Educational Development Manager to identify content needs based on curriculum design and learner objectives. Ensure the vision of the Research &Development team is clearly reflected in all materials.
- Participate in needs assessments to identify gaps in content coverage and areas where new materials are required.
- Work closely with SMEs to design content that aligns with curriculum objectives and educational best practices.
- Collaborate closely with the Educator Development team to ensure that development of materials to support educators aligns to the wider provision of support for educators including training courses and CPD resources.
- Support in the development of clear and comprehensive content outlines and specifications for textbooks, ensuring they meet pedagogical standards.
- Collaborate with Instructional Design and Development and Research and Development teams to integrate content seamlessly into WSET courses, regardless of delivery mode.
- Assist in the coordination of SMEs, writers, graphic designers, and editors to produce high-quality educational materials, and contribute to the development of content briefs.
- Ensure that all materials are accurate, engaging, and aligned with the organisation's educational goals.
- Ensure all content developed meets agreed accessibility standards. Employ an inclusive approach when developing content, and where required, ensure content can be delivered in alternate formats.
- Review and provide feedback on content drafts, working with writers and contributors.
- Work alongside the Product Planning & Content Operations team to meet development deadlines.
- Administrate any requirements related to delivery of materials in alternative formats.
Implementation and Evaluation of Learning Strategies
- Collaborate with internal teams, educators, SMEs and other stakeholders to gather feedback on the usability and impact of the materials.
- Utilise feedback from Research & Development team, educators, learners, and other stakeholders to assess the effectiveness of existing materials and identify areas for improvement.
- Participate in testing and evaluating the effectiveness of newly developed materials in real-world educational settings, including but not limited to: blended, classroom, online and virtual courses. Run and manage pilots where required to assess the effectiveness of content development.
- Support the incorporation of feedback and necessary revisions to facilitate the production of supporting teaching materials.
- Assist in conducting ongoing assessments of the materials' effectiveness in achieving learning objectives. As required, teach or observe the teaching of WSET courses to examine how lessons are received after qualification launch.
- Analyse feedback from APPs, educators and learners to identify areas for improvement and refinement.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and encourage feedback and iterative course development.
- Stay appraised of innovations and updates in the field of educational theory and practice, making suggestions on how to incorporate learning. Where appropriate, attend live or virtual events to remain up to date.
Contributions to a Collaborative Educational Environment
- Provide teaching or assessment support for ETP courses where necessary and feasible.
- Contribute to the successful overall operation of the Trust overall by undertaking such other tasks as may from time to time be requested.
Required Skills and Competencies
Essential:
- Strong understanding of instructional design and learning theory.
- Experience with developing and managing educational content.
- Proficiency in using educational technologies and tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Instructional Design, or related field.
Desirable:
- Advanced Degree in Education or a relevant discipline.
- Experience in the wine, spirits, or sake sectors.
